Delacour claims glory in Investec South African Women’s Open
- South Africa’s Casandra Alexander wins Investec Order of Merit
- South Africa’s Kaiyuree Moodley wins R&A Rookie of the Year award

SOMERSET WEST, Western Cape – France’s Perrine Delacour claimed her second victory on the Ladies European Tour when she won the Investec South African Women’s Open by two shots at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate on Sunday.
In a thrilling final round where the lead changed several times, Delacour made two key birdies in her final four holes to close with a 70 and win on 14 under par.
South Africa’s Casandra Alexander made a strong charge with her final round of 66 to take second place on 12 under par. Australia’s Kelsey Bennett and England’s Bronte Law shared third place on 11 under par.
Delacour started a windy final round with two bogeys in her first six holes to suddenly bring several players into contention.
“I didn’t start the way I wanted to. I didn’t know how many players were coming up behind me. I was just trying to stay focused on my own game. I made a great birdie on 15, which was playing very hard, and then another birdie on 16. Coming down 18, I knew I was leading but I didn’t know by how many shots, so on 18 I just wanted to hit the green and make par,” said Delacour.
The win was a huge confidence boost for the French golfer as she looks forward to dividing her time between the Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour.
“It’s been great to win again after a rough start to my year. I’m really happy because I sometimes struggle mentally and this proved I can win on tour even when not leading after nine holes, or being tied after nine holes. I trusted myself and got it done, so I’m pretty happy about that.”
The Investec South African Women’s Open was the final tournament on this year’s Sunshine Ladies Tour, with several season awards on offer.
South Africa’s Casandra Alexander wrapped up a magnificent season in which she claimed the overall Investec Order of Merit. Alexander had the best season of her career where she didn’t finish outside the top five in seven tournaments, including a win and three runner-up finishes.
“I feel like I really earned it this year. My team and I have worked so hard to get me in the right place to be able to play any golf course in any condition at any time. The confidence I can now take onto the Ladies European Tour is second to none. The game is in a good place, the confidence is in a good place, so who knows what the future holds,” said Alexander, who earned a R200 000 bonus and the use of a Renault car for a year.
Investec-sponsored golfer Kaiyuree Moodley won the R&A Rookie of the Year Award after an impressive first season on the Sunshine Tour where she had three top-10s and also finished sixth on the Investec Order of Merit.
And South Africa’s Gia Raad walked away with the Jackie Mercer trophy as the leading amateur. Raad was the only amateur to make the cut and closed with a 75 to finish on level par.

Tamburlini makes her move in Investec South African Women’s Open

Michael Vlismas
SOMERSET WEST, Western Cape – Chiara Tamburlini knows better than anybody that winning takes care of everything else, and she plans to follow that mantra as she takes a one-stroke lead into the weekend of the Investec South African Women’s Open at the Erinvale Country & Golf Estate.
The Swiss star took the Ladies European Tour by storm last year with her three victories – one of which came in a Sunshine Ladies Tour co-sanctioned event – as she also went on to win the Rookie of the Year award and the overall Order of Merit.
She showed that same level of golf on Friday as she signed for a seven-under-par 65 to lead this field on 11 under par. Her nearest challenger is France’s Perrine Delacour on 10 under after her round of 69.
“I’m really happy with how I played. Of course I think about last season and winning the Order of Merit, which I’d like to do again. But it’s difficult because there are a lot of good golfers out here. I’m just trying to break it down to small goals for myself. I want to win a tournament again, and to do that I’ve got to hit a bunch of good shots during the week, and that’s what I’m trying to focus on,” said Tamburlini.
She did exactly this on Friday, and her wedge game in particular was impressive.
“I converted my good approaches, and wasn’t really stressed when I had to chip to make par, so overall it was a really good day.”
The Swiss golfer took advantage of another stunning morning at Erinvale and started her round with consecutive birdies as she made her run at the top of the leaderboard. The wind started to pick up on her second nine, but it wasn’t enough to stop her charge.
“The front nine was still quite calm, but at the turn it got really hot and the wind picked up. The wind was also on-and-off, so you had to adjust all the time. But my game is feeling good.”
Behind her, Delacour is looking equally comfortable on this Gary Player-designed layout. Apart from a three-putt for bogey at the last on Friday, she’s had two days of supremely consistent golf.
“It’s definitely been a good two days. It also helps a lot with this view here. Even after that three-putt at the last, I looked up and thought, ‘Okay, it’s just golf’.”
Delacour has looked like she’s just enjoying a social round of golf at Erinvale as she’s calmly gone about her business, and has been happy to carry her own bag this week.
“I’ve been pretty patient out there. I’m carrying my own bag and just enjoying it as much as I can. So I’m just staying patient and trusting the process with my team. I’m definitely looking forward to the weekend. And after my round I relax by watching The Masters, so it’s nice to see some good views there as well.”
Germany’s Aline Krauter is well placed on eight under par after a second round of 71, while Kiera Floyd and amateur Gia Raad are the leading South Africans on seven under par. Floyd positioned herself for the weekend with a round of 67, while Raad signed for a 70. As the only amateur to make the cut, the young GolfRSA star will win the Jackie Mercer Trophy for the leading amateur.

Delacour and Krauter take early advantage in Investec South African Women’s Open

Michael Vlismas
SOMERSET WEST, Western Cape – France’s Perrine Delacour and Germany’s Aline Krauter came through the first round of the Investec South African Women’s Open tied for the lead on a magnificent day in the winelands that brought the best out of this international field on Thursday.
Delacour and Krauter both opened with rounds of seven-under-par 65 at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate and lead by a single stroke over Namibia’s Bonita Bredenhann, France’s Lucie Malchirand and the Czech Republic’s Sara Kouskova. South African amateur Gia Raad also impressed with her first round of five-under-par 67.
“I’m pretty happy about that,” said Delacour, who admitted that Erinvale’s incredible views were a welcome distraction during her round.
“It’s pretty. I keep looking at the view. If you had a bad shot, you just look at the view and that helps a lot.”
Delacour teed off the 10th and did most of her scoring on her second nine where she had two birdies and an eagle in her first four holes after the turn. And she didn’t drop a shot on the first day of this Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned event.
“I’m trying to be a bit more relaxed about my game and accept that I’ll miss with some shots. I’m trying to not be a perfectionist all the time. I just have to keep trusting the process and see where we go. There is a lot of golf left to play,” she said.
Alongside her at the top of the leaderboard, Krauter had an equally solid day that featured strong finishes to both her nines. Also teeing off the 10th, she went to the turn with three birdies in four holes, and then ended her round with two birdies in her final three holes.
“It was amazing. It wasn’t as windy as I’ve heard it can get here, so I took advantage of that. I love the course and I’m excited for the rest of the week,” she said.
But it’s a tight leaderboard behind them.
Bredenhann was delighted to be amongst the early contenders at the end of a day where she had a hole-in-one on the par-three 14th, earning her a bottle of champagne for her efforts.
“My caddie and I were discussing clubs and I went for a six iron. It was 158 metres and I hit it perfect. When it pitched it rolled down to the hole and I shouted for it to go in, which it did. It was an amazing feeling. It’s my second hole-in-one on the Sunshine Ladies Tour this season,” she said.
It was a low-scoring start to this tournament, with 15 golfers within three shots of the lead by the end of the day.

Investec South African Women’s Open showcases Out of the Ordinary talent
Michael Vlismas
SOMERSET WEST, Western Cape – The 32nd Investec South African Women’s Open will showcase the growing depth of international women’s golf, and specifically some of the most inspiring stories from a host of South African women professionals who are chasing glory at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate this week.
The final tournament on this year’s Sunshine Ladies Tour has drawn a quality field that includes the stars of the Ladies European Tour, with €340 000 (approximately R7.1 million) in prize money on offer when the first round tees off on Thursday.
South African women’s golf’s most historic tournament has also drawn a few golfers who epitomise the Out of the Ordinary talent on display this week.
It was exactly after this tournament in 2020 that Ivanna Samu arrived home to a diagnosis of cancer. Having bravely overcome this disease, she is now back in this field with a whole new focus on her career. During her treatment Samu decided to help out with coaching young golfers to take her mind off things, and which gave even greater meaning to her involvement in the Sally Little and Imibala Golf Clinic with young golfers at Erinvale on Wednesday.
“When I was going through my cancer I felt very down, and just seeing the joy on the kids’ faces brought joy to my own heart. I’ve played in this tournament as an amateur and now as a professional. The Investec South African Women’s Open is a great tournament, and the opportunity to compete against the Ladies European Tour professionals gives me a great idea of where I want to get to. I’ll be going to the LET Qualifying School this year, and this is where it starts. This is the opportunity we have been given,” she said.
The 23-year-old Kaiyuree Moodley has taken the Sunshine Ladies Tour by storm this year and is leading the R&A Rookie of the Year standings while also occupying a place inside the top 10 on the Investec Order of Merit. The rising star of South African women’s golf already has playing privileges on the Ladies European Tour, and has also been selected as one of Investec’s sponsored golfers for the season. There was a sense of her coming full circle as she took part in the Sally Little and Imibala Golf Clinic.
“Sally Little actually invited me to one of her golf clinics when I was just starting out in the game. So being able to come back and give something back to her clinic is awesome. And if you’d told me at the beginning of the year that I would be sponsored by Investec in my first year as a professional I would’ve laughed. It’s fantastic because I can now play freely without having to worry about anything. I feel very privileged to be here,” she said.
Danielle du Toit has overcome her own challenges to get to this point in her career where she tees off on Thursday as a winner this year already on the Sunshine Ladies Tour.
“This is the tournament you dream of winning, as a South African. But this game has opened so many doors for me. I’m excited for the week,” she said.
For Little herself, this week is about exactly these opportunities for the next generation of South African women golfers and the inspiration they are to others.
“To come to a tournament as a young professional and have the opportunity to play a golf course like Erinvale, it elevates that feeling of them being able to take their careers overseas and to achieve their dreams. It’s beautiful to see, and I’ll be pulling for a South African winner this year,” she said.
Entrance is free for spectators, with free parking at Lourensford Wine Estate.
The tournament will also be televised live on SuperSport from Thursday to Sunday.

World-class field chasing top honours in Investec South African Women’s Open
Michael Vlismas
SOMERSET WEST, Western Cape – The Sunshine Ladies Tour is headed for a thrilling finale at this week’s €340 000 (Approximately R7.1 million) 32nd edition of the Investec South African Women’s Open at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate, where the stars of South African women’s professional golf and the Ladies European Tour will compete for top honours and a host of prestigious season awards.
The final tournament of the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s 12th season has drawn a strong field, including winners from both tours this season, who will compete for the most historic trophy in South African women’s professional golf.
The prize money for this year’s tournament has also been increased by €20 000, making it one of Africa’s richest women’s sports events. And the growing interest in this year’s event and women’s golf overall is reflected in the fact that for the first time in Sunshine Ladies Tour history there will be a double pro-am.
Apart from the title of Investec South African Women’s Open champion, this week’s field will also be chasing several added incentives.
With this being the final event of the Sunshine Ladies Tour season, the top-ranked player on the Investec Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn a R200 000 bonus.
Should the winner of this week’s tournament be a South African, she will also earn a R100 000 bonus on top of her first-placed prize money as part of the Investec Homegrown Award celebrating local talent in the game.
And the leading South African on the Investec Order of Merit at the end of this season will win the use of a Renault for a year.
These are all titles South Africa’s Casandra Alexander will be chasing as the current leader on the Investec Order of Merit and the in-form golfer this season, having not finished outside the top five in her past six tournaments on the Sunshine Ladies Tour, including a win and two runners-up finishes.
Alexander has twice finished second on the Investec Order of Merit in 2021 and 2023 and third in 2022, and her consistency this season has brought her to Erinvale in easily the best form of her career.
“This level of consistency is exactly what I’ve been working towards. The aim has been to be in contention every single week, and I’ve achieved that. So hopefully the form continues,” she said.
The end of the season will also see the crowning of the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s inaugural
R&A Rookie of the Year award.
South Africa’s Kaiyuree Moodley is leading the rookie race with a breakout first season in which she’s had three top-10s this season and earned her Ladies European Tour card.
The R&A Rookie of the Year at the end of the season will, if not already exempt, receive automatic exemptions into the 2026 Joburg Ladies Open and the 2026 Investec South African Woman’s Open.
It’s a week of rewards and incentives that aligns perfectly with Investec’s own belief in extraordinary talent and nurturing South African talent in particular.
“Investec’s support of women’s golf is to create exactly these opportunities for growth in the game and to help unlock the investment in this talent. It’s a privilege for us to continue supporting homegrown female talent in golf on the international stage, and along with our partners we’ve increased the prize money this year as part of our commitment to the continued elevation of the national Open and women’s golf,” said Peta Dixon, head of sponsorships at Investec.
“In the broader sense of women’s sport, the Investec South African Women’s Open is a powerful statement of what’s possible through out of the ordinary partnerships in women’s sport as a whole. We had a memorable Investec South African Open on the men’s Sunshine Tour in which Dylan Naidoo made history, and this week’s Investec South African Women’s Open is poised to be equally career defining for the champion.”
Entrance is free for spectators, with free parking at Lourensford Wine Estate.
The tournament will also be televised live on SuperSport from Thursday to Sunday.

JOHANNESBURG – England’s Mimi Rhodes overcame a strong challenge from South Africa’s Casandra Alexander to claim back-to-back wins on the Ladies European Tour in the Joburg Ladies Open at Modderfontein Golf Club on Sunday.
Rhodes showed her composure when she made a tricky up-and-down for par at the last to close with a 71 and win on 14 under par overall in this Sunshine Ladies Tour co-sanctioned tournament.
In a thrilling back-nine duel, Alexander narrowly missed a birdie putt on the 18th to force a playoff with her English opponent. The South African signed for a final round of 69 to finish second on 13 under par.
Germany’s Helen Briem made a strong charge through the field with her 68 to take third place on 11 under par.
This was Rhodes’s second consecutive victory in her rookie season on the Ladies European Tour following her win in last week’s Ford Women’s NSW Open in Australia.
“I never would’ve imagined this. It’s a dream come true to be playing so well so early in my career. I’m honestly lost for words. It’s amazing and I can’t wait for the rest of the season and hopefully I can keep the good golf going,” said Rhodes.
Rhodes took a three-shot lead into the final round of a tournament reduced to 54 holes because of the weather. The final round was an incredible battle between Rhodes and Alexander, with the South African twice narrowing the gap to just one shot and Rhodes responding accordingly.
With a one-shot lead playing the18th, Rhodes overshot the green with her approach and Alexander put her approach to about eight feet. Rhodes produced a masterful chip that left her with a tap-in for par, and Alexander missed her birdie putt.
“I was just thinking one shot at a time. I’d been chipping well all day and the shot felt comfortable. I just thought I’ve got nothing to lose so commit to it. I’m happy I pulled it off,” said Rhodes.
“It’s amazing to win two-in-a-row, and to win in a country I’ve never been to before. I’m so excited and overwhelmed.”
Alexander retains her place at the top of the Investec Order of Merit going into the final tournament of the season – the Investec South African Women’s Open at Erinvale this coming week.

Alexander ready to set up a Rhodes block in battle for Joburg Ladies Open glory
Michael Vlismas
JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s Casandra Alexander heads into the final day of the Joburg Ladies Open just three shots off the lead of England’s Mimi Rhodes, who is chasing back-to-back victories at Modderfontein Golf Club.
By the end of a second round played over two days because of the heavy rain and subsequent delays, Alexander signed for a 71 and a tournament total of nine under par. Ireland’s Lauren Walsh also finished the day on nine under with a 69. Rhodes is at the top of the leaderboard on 12 under par following her second round of 69.
The bad weather has meant this Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned event has been reduced to 54 holes.
Alexander had played three holes of her second round on Friday before the suspension of play, and was going along well with two birdies in that stretch. She returned on Saturday morning and, after a delayed start because of more rain, picked up birdies at holes five and 15. But it was a double bogey on the 17th, where she hit into the hazard, that slowed her progress.
“I didn’t hit a great tee shot there and got lucky to have a shot at the pin. I caught it a little heavy and because it’s wet the ball just doesn’t carry, and there you go. The greens were really slow today. It was tough to get the pace right because it was changing all the time with the rain, and then they would speed up when it was dry. But we’re still in the running and will have an interesting final day,” said the South African, who is hunting her maiden title on the Ladies European Tour.
Rhodes is looking for back-to-back wins on the Ladies European Tour after a victory in Australia last week, and she took the lead with a strong run of four birdies in five holes over the turn on Saturday despite the wet weather.
“I just stuck to my routine and kept my focus. I had a couple of good up-and-downs to start and my putts were going in and I kept the momentum from yesterday. I like target golf and it was a bit like that. You just have to stay patient. My caddie helped me a lot when I was frustrated at missing greens.
“But I was just having fun out there and trying to take advantage of the birdies when I could. I’m not going to think too far ahead. I’ll relax after a stressful day, keep my routine the same and then fingers crossed for the final day,” she said.

Alexander makes her move in Joburg Ladies Open

JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s Casandra Alexander had no sooner taken the lead in the Joburg Ladies Open when the second round was suspended for the day after another heavy downpour rendered the Modderfontein Golf Club course unplayable.
The suspended first round had to be completed on Friday morning, and Alexander was one shot off the lead of England’s Mimi Rhodes. Alexander then started her second round strong with birdies at the first and third holes to take the lead on nine under par, one clear of Rhodes.
But a waterlogged course after more heavy rain meant the second round will have to be completed on Saturday, with 80 golfers in the field of 132 still out on the course. The round will resume at 08:00 on Saturday, with the third round set to tee off one hour after the completion of the second round.
Alexander, though, has handled the tough conditions superbly and made a strong move towards a maiden Ladies European Tour title as she flies the South African flag in this tournament.
Iceland’s Alexandra Swayne also took advantage on Friday and climbed to five under par overall with three holes to play.
And France’s Agathe Laisne produced a sublime round of six-under-par 67 to climb to two under overall.
“It rains a lot in France so I’m used to these conditions. I like it. It’s different. I also made a lot of putts and hit 17 greens in regulation which helped,” said Laisne.
But for most of the field it was a challenging day.
“There’s two aspects to playing in weather like this. The first is how the rain affects the flight of your golf ball and things like how your ball rolls on the greens. You never have a constant speed on the greens. Then you have the challenge of keeping everything dry. It’s a logistical nightmare for a golfer and caddie,” said South Africa’s Danielle du Toit, who is on three over par for the tournament through two holes of her second round.

JOHANNESBURG – England’s Mimi Rhodes brought her winning form to Johannesburg as she claimed the clubhouse lead in Thursday’s first round of the Joburg Ladies Open at Modderfontein Golf Club, with South Africa’s Casandra Alexander just one shot behind her.
A heavy afternoon downpour forced the suspension of the round because of a waterlogged course and it will be completed on Friday morning.
Rhodes won last week’s Ford Women’s NSW Open in Australia for her maiden victory on the Ladies European Tour. She looked equally at home at Modderfontein Golf Club on Thursday as she opened with a bogey-free eight-under-par 65 in this Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned tournament.
“It was just really solid overall. I think the secret to this golf course is placing yourself well on the fairway to give you chances with approaches into the greens. I had a lot of putts inside 10 feet that I holed, and I still think I left some out there. But it’s early days still so I’m just trying to stay in my own bubble on the golf course,” said Rhodes.
There’s no doubt the English professional is still feeding of the confidence of her win in Australia last week.
“That win really boosted my confidence, especially with my putting. I’m in a really good head space now. The putts just seemed to roll in today, but I’m not going to get ahead of myself.”
As her nearest challenger and the leading South African in the field, Alexander was very satisfied with her 66 to start this tournament.
“It felt good. I actually didn’t sleep that well. My dog kept me up all night, so maybe that’s the gameplan for the second round as well. Sometimes you walk off the golf course and feel like you made a couple of birdies but didn’t hit it so great. But today I hit it well and put myself in the right positions. It wasn’t my A game, but it was still my B plus game. I rolled the putter nicely,” she said.
Alexander has been incredibly consistent this season and hasn’t finished outside the top five in her last five tournaments on the Sunshine Ladies Tour, including a victory. That form has carried her to the top of the Investec Order of Merit.
“That’s what we’ve been working towards. I had a chat with my mental coach before this tournament and he said to me I’ve worked for this – to be in contention every week. So it’s a great position to be in,” she said.
India’s Pranavi Urs is five under par with five holes of her first round to complete.
The first round was officially teed off by Cllr. Margaret Arnolds, the MMC for Finance, who hit the ceremonial tee shot on Thursday morning.
“This is definitely a proud moment for us to be promoting women’s sport in our city. Entrance is free so I’d really like to encourage our communities to come and support the Joburg Ladies Open,” said Cllr. Arnolds.

LET’s top golfer impressed with growing strength of Sunshine Ladies Tour
JOHANNESBURG – England’s Cara Gainer is ready for a strong challenge in this week’s €300 000 Joburg Ladies Open, with the top-ranked player on the Ladies European Tour saying she’s been impressed with the standard of golf on the Sunshine Ladies Tour this year.
Gainer forms part of a highly competitive field gathered at Modderfontein Golf Club for this co-sanctioned tournament, which tees off on Thursday.
The English professional, who heads into this event with a win and second place in her last five tournaments, says the growing competitiveness of the Sunshine Ladies Tour has created an excellent pathway onto the Ladies European Tour.
“The standard is definitely rising out here. The Sunshine Ladies Tour is a really good pathway to the Ladies European Tour. A lot of players play this tour and then these co-sanctioned events, which are really good for them to see what standard they’re at compared to the rest of the Ladies European Tour. You can see the scores over the last few weeks on the Sunshine Ladies Tour have been low, so you can tell the standard is good out here. And the field this week is a strong one. It’s great to have so many great players here this week,” said Gainer.
The English professional makes her first appearance in the Joburg Ladies Open since 2023, and is looking forward to continuing her good start to the year.
“I’m really excited. I was last here in 2023 and it’s nice to be back in Johannesburg. The golf course is slightly different to when I last saw it. It’s playing a lot softer. It’s quite fun having to work out different clubs and yardages to what I was used to.
“I had a really good start to the year with a win and second place. I think I’m bringing in a different mentality this year. Last season I had a wrist injury so I was sort of up-and-down. I promised myself this year that I was going to really enjoy my golf and not put as much pressure on myself as I did last year. That’s what I’m looking forward to – enjoying myself and letting the golf take care of itself.”
This week’s field includes defending champion Chiara Tamburlini from Switzerland, and also feels the course will present a different challenge this week.
“It’s playing a little different this year, but there are really good memories here and I’m excited to be back,” she said.
The field is one of the strongest in the history of the Joburg Ladies Open, with every one of the top 10 players on the Investec Order of Merit playing – led by the top-ranked Casandra Alexander from South Africa – and seven of the current top 10 on the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit.
“It’s a tough field out here, so you’ll definitely need your A game to win,” said Tamburlini.
