Pace in touch at Marathon Classic

Ladies Open GolfSouth Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace is just four off the pace through 54 holes in the LPGA Tour’s rain-plagued Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Illinois.

The Pearl Valley golfer opened with a four-under-par 67 to lie just one off the pace from South Korea’s Ha Na Jang at Highland Meadows Golf Club on Thursday.

The two-time Investec Cup for Ladies champion stayed in touch with a one-birdie 70 in the second round. She mixed three birdies with three bogeys in the third round, but holed out for an eagle three at the par-five 18th to finish in a tie for 12th on seven-under-par 206.

Jang, who took the lead in the first round, parred the last five holes on Saturday for a two under 69 and leads on 11 under 202.

She will carry a one stroke lead over compatriot Q Beak into the final round.

South Africans Ashleigh Simon and Paula Reto will also be looking to improve their standing in Sunday’s final round.

Simon carded rounds of 72, 70 and 70 to tie for 47th on one under 212 while Reto finished a further four strokes adrift in joint 67th on three over after registering rounds of 69, 74 and 73.
